Fall Wardrobe Staples

Happy Fall!!

It’s finally beginning to feel more like fall with the slight drop in temperature and pumpkins on every doorstep! I couldn’t love this time of year any more. Now that fall is finally in full swing, it’s safe to put away your summer clothes and pull out your sweaters, boots and scarves. This year, I’ve decided to round up all my fall essentials that I find myself constantly wearing on rotation during the cooler months. To be honest, I dress for comfort 99.9% of the time and generally rotate the same 20 items around week after week. I look for classic quality pieces that are comfortable, durable and easy to pair with multiple different looks. These items that I’ve rounded up are the bread and butter of my fall and winter wardrobe. I’ve hunted high and low for all the top options for each item/category so that you can shop the best of the best this season! When looking for these pieces, I took in consideration brand, price point and ratings so we only have the best options! Each section has a tiny blurb about why this item is great to have in your closet. If you want to skip straight to the shopping, you can also click on the “Fall Wardrobe Staples” page under “Shop”.

Happy fall and happy shopping!

one

Denim Shirt

There is nothing more versatile than a denim shirt! You can pair it with jeans for a denim on denim look, leggings or leather pants. I love a denim top with a scarf, boots and felt hat for a quintessential fall look.

Flannel Shirt

A flannel shirt just screams cozy! I love a good flannel with jeans or leggings. You can also dress a flannel up with wide leg jeans and pumps for a fun casual but cute outfit for the office or out to dinner with friends.

Sweater

There’s not much explaining here! Having a handful of good neutral sweaters in your closet is key during the winter months. They are so versatile and can be quickly thrown on with jeans and boots or leggins and pumps. The options are endless and you’re always guaranteed to be comfy.

Crew Neck

I love a good crew neck shirt to layer under blazers and jackets or to be worn alone tucked into high waisted trousers or pants. I always find myself reaching for these basic tops to wear everyday during the cooler months when it’s cold in the morning and warmer throughout the afternoon. Layers are key!

Blazer

I think it’s really important to have at least one blazer in your wardrobe. Blazers are classic and such a staple when you are going for more of a polished look. I love a good blazer paired with a t-shirt or turtleneck with high waisted wide leg jeans and booties or pumps. It’s also super cute layered over a thin sweater with jeans and loafers.

Long Coat

Long coats are just chic. Wear them draped around your shoulders for a sophisticated but effortless look or buttoned up with boots and jeans for those cold mornings and evenings. A neutral long coat will never go out of style and will always scream timeless. Not linked here, but equally loved, are Genuine People Coats. I have one and absolutely love it. The quality is outstanding for the price.

denim jacket

I always have a denim jacket in my car or in my office. You never know when you are going to get a little chilly and denim jackets look good with just about everything. Pair them with a cream turtleneck, black jeans and booties for a casual weekend look.

Silk Scarf

Silk scarves should be investment pieces that you collect just like you would a good handbag. A silk scarf adds just the right amount of personality and style to an otherwise basic outfit. Silk scarves can be worn so many different ways so it’s easy to get a lot of wear out of one piece. Not linked here, but equally loved, are these scarves by Carson and Co. They are absolutely stunning and the quality and craftsmanship is beautiful.

Leggings

Leggings are for the days you want to feel comfortable after one too many chicken and dumpling servings. I love a good high waisted legging that sucks you in and pairs perfectly with a longer chunky sweater and boots. You have to be careful with leggings… In my opinion, the price matters and going the cheap route isn’t always best. You want good quality thick material that doesn’t show anything you don’t want to show!

Wide Leg Jeans

I’ve just now added a wide leg jean to my closet and I don’t know why I waited so long! They’re so cute with pumps or heeled booties and super flattering. I love a good high waisted wide leg jean paired with a tucked in turtleneck or cropped chunky sweater and booties.

Black Skinny Jeans

Black skinny jeans are a closet staple all year round but especially during fall and winter. I love a good classic black denim or a waxed or leather finish. You can wear black skinny jeans with just about anything but I particularly love them with a white top, blazer and boots. I’m also constantly pairing them with a chunky sweater and loafers for a quick weekday outfit.

Trousers

Trousers are something I’ve grown to love. They’re more of a statement and take a little more thought than leggings and jeans. I love to pair trousers down with white t-shirts or long sleeve crewnecks tucked in and Gucci loafers. They’re also really nice dressed up with pumps, a turtleneck and a long coat draped over the shoulders for a more mature and sophisticated look.

Boots

A good pair of boots should be treated like an investment. When purchased correctly, they last season over season and you don’t have to buy new ones every year. That being said, I think you can find some really beautiful quality boots around $300. Boots will always be timeless and practical during the cooler months. I look for a pointier toe (but not too sharp) over a rounded toe and a really good block heel.

Booties

Booties are what I wear at least 3-4 days every week during the fall. They’re easy to slip on and so comfortable to wear. I love having a few black bootie options but I have to be honest and say my go-tos are these Tecovas that I’ve now worn like crazy for the past 2 years. Like my boots, I look for the perfect shaped toe that elongate my feet and a flattering cut off around the ankle. I also only buy block heeled boots because I find they are the most flattering.

Pumps

Pumps are in season and in style all year around. There’s a reason this classic silhouette has been around for so long! Pumps elongate your legs and instantly add sophistication to any look. I love a good white leather pump or brown suede for fall. Pumps go with everything but I especially love them paired with wide leg jeans or trousers.

Loafers

Loafers are a must have when it comes to a closet staple. These shoes are so versatile and easy to slip on with any casual outfit. I find myself reaching for my loafers when I’m wanting to dress for comfort but still look put together. I love loafers paired with leggings, jeans, trousers and basically every sweater look I own!
