My Top 5 Restaurants in Austin for Southern Dining
It should be no surprise by now that I love food. But beyond a delicious meal, I truly love the dining experience. When out of town friends ask me where they should go eat when visiting Austin, I'm never going to recommend a hole in the wall place that has amazing food (although sometimes that is great). I always suggest a restaurant that has great food and an amazing ambiance. Here are my tride and true go-to places in Austin that are sure to never let you down if you looking for a wonderful dining experience.
1. Mattie's
Mattie's is hands down the best southern cooking restaurant in Austin with the absolute cutest atmosphere. Located in the middle of a residential area, Mattie's is an old spacious farm home that serves southern dishes every evening and brunch on the weekends. Their biscuits and seasonal butter are truly out of this world and the fried chicken is a must order. This is the perfect place for a girls brunch or a cozy date with your loved one. You can check out my full post on Mattie's here!
2. Josephine House
Josephine House, to me, is an Austin staple. It is absolutely adorable! Located in Clarksville in an old white house, Josephine House serves farm to table dishes and a rotating menu that changes each season. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as brunch on the weekends. Their happy hour is Monday - Saturday from 3-5 $2 off drinks and 50% off all food. My favorite dish is their seasonal pasta but their burger is not also not to be missed! Another favorite is the rice bowl. Tip, order the green and apple juice with tequila for a spicy green cocktail that's perfect for brunch! This is my go-to place for a girl's dinner during the week!
3. Rosewood
Rosewood is one of my new favorite staples! Another extremely cute restaurant located in an old historic home. Rosewood is a new restaurant in East Austin serving a fairly diverse menu with interesting dishes and really delicious cocktails. You'll find southern staple dishes with lots of Texas flavor. They're open for lunch and dinner Tuesday - Sunday and brunch on the weekends. Not to be missed, their daily happy hour from 5-6! If you pop in for brunch, do not miss out on the Queso Flameado and the Brisket Croque Madame!
4. Clark's Oyster Bar
Clark's will forever be one of my very favorite restaurants! It is always the first place I suggest to out-of-towners. It's quaint, cozy and absolutely delicious. Clark's is an oyster bar that serves exceptional seafood. They're open everyday for lunch and dinner, and brunch on the weekends. Their happy hour is my favorite! M-F 3:00 - 6:00 50 cents off oysters, 1/2 off burgers, $5 martinis, oyster shooters and draft beer. And even BETTER, happy hour on Saturday and Sunday 3:00 - 6:00 50 cents off oysters, 1/2 off bottles of wine and oyster shooters. My favorite dishes? Scallops, Pan Roasted Black Angus Burger, Bibb and Watercress Salad, Shells and Cheese and the Stone Ground Grits!
5. Jacoby's
Jacoby's is the perfect spot if you're craving a good ole ranch to table dining experience. Located on the East side in a rustic old building, Jacoby's offers everything you would want in southern meal - Chicken Fried Steak, Pimento Cheese, Deviled Eggs, Mac and Cheese, Shrimp and Grits, the list goes on. Their homemade baked pastries and desserts are also not to be overlooked. The best part? Jacoby's sits on the Colorado River. Grab your reservation, arrive a little early and sit out in their rocking chairs with a glass of wine while you wait on your table. If you're going for brunch, don't miss out on their Buttermilk Biscuits and Gravy!
